Experience an unforgettable night of music as Nasir Dickerson and his band ignite the stage with a powerful fusion of African rhythms and jazz. An Emmy Award-winning music educator and multi-instrumentalist, Nasir is a masterful saxophonist, kora player, African flutist, composer, and producer. A protégé of jazz greats and currently studying under Cullen Knight, he leads two acclaimed ensembles: The Renaissance Messengers and Life Light Empower. Nasir has graced stages alongside icons like Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, The Roots, and The Stylistics, and has opened for jazz legends including Dr. Donald Byrd and Jimmy Heath. His albums—Let It Shine, The Revealer, and Journey to Fatherland—highlight the depth of his creative expression.
The ensemble features Nasir on tenor saxophone, kora, balafon, and African flute, supported by a powerhouse lineup: Aaron Graves (piano), Jojo Streater (trumpet), Jon Smith (bass), Dai Miyazaki (guitar), and Jeanette Mare (vocals). The rhythm section—Khary Shaheed (drums), Darryl Jackson (percussion), Sekou Dickerson (Doun Doun ba), and Qaadir Sabree (djembe)—infuses each performance with electrifying energy. Together, they create a rich, immersive soundscape that celebrates the beauty and spirit of African jazz.
