A Night of Cultural Harmony

For the third year, the opening ceremony for the 2025 Cherry Blossom Festival will be held at The Fallser Club. We can’t wait to host it! 
Join us for an evening of music, culture, and artistic collaboration at the Fallser Club, featuring a diverse lineup of performers blending Japanese tradition, folk, operetta, and classical music.
This event promises a truly immersive and unforgettable experience, celebrating the power of music to bridge cultures and inspire audiences.

 

Keystone Japan CLub

Keystone Japan Club is a vibrant community dedicated to celebrating and promoting Japanese
culture in the Pennsylvania region. A longtime participant in the annual Cherry Blossom
Festival, the club has been a staple presence for many years, showcasing Japan’s rich traditions
through performances, workshops, and cultural exhibits. Through language exchanges, artistic
collaborations, and social gatherings, Keystone Japan Club fosters connections between
Japanese and American communities, creating a welcoming space for all who share a passion
for Japan’s heritage and contemporary influences.

 

Rachel Andie

 

Rachel Andie is a Japanese-American multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and visual artist
based in Philadelphia. Blending elements of folk, indie rock, and jazz, her music is both
introspective and cinematic, weaving poetic lyricism with dynamic soundscapes. As the
frontwoman of Rachel Andie & The Vth Element, she has captivated audiences with her
evocative storytelling and lush arrangements. Drawing from her diverse heritage and
experiences, Rachel's artistry resonates deeply, offering a unique perspective that bridges
cultures and emotions through music.

The Mikado

The Savoy Company of Philadelphia, founded in 1901, is the oldest amateur theater company
in the world dedicated exclusively to performing the works of Gilbert & Sullivan. With a legacy
spanning over a century, Savoy has brought perennial favorites like HMS Pinafore, The Mikado,
and The Pirates of Penzance to life with energy and wit. This spring, they present The Mikado, a
beloved classic filled with witty satire and vibrant melodies. In collaboration with the Japan
America Society of Greater Philadelphia (JASGP), this production offers a unique opportunity
to explore the operetta’s historical context and cultural influences. With a rich legacy of musical
excellence, The Savoy Company continues to delight audiences with its spirited performances
and dedication to the works of Gilbert and Sullivan.

Amane Sakaguchi (Stage name: Kosaburo Kineya)

Amane Sakaguchi (b. 1998), professionally known as Kosaburo Kineya IV, is a shamisen player,
pianist, and composer from Tokyo. Born into a family with over 200 years of Nagauta tradition,
she trained under her grandfather and father before launching her professional career at 14.
She earned a Bachelor of Music from Tokyo University of the Arts in shamisen performance
and is now pursuing a master’s in composition at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia,
PA.
Beyond her deep roots in traditional Japanese music, Sakaguchi is a versatile composer whose
works span multiple instruments, blending European classical and traditional Japanese music
to create a bold new musical language. Through her innovative compositions and
performances, she continues to bridge cultures and redefine the possibilities of cross-genre
music.

The University of Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra

The University of Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra, established in 1878, has long been a vital
part of Penn’s musical community. Comprised primarily of non-music majors, the ensemble
brings together students from across the university to explore a diverse orchestral repertoire
spanning the 18th to 20th centuries.
The Penn orchestra will collaborate with Amane Sakaguchi (Kosaburo Kineya IV) for the Sakura
Concert, blending European classical music with traditional Japanese sounds to create a
unique and immersive musical experience. Featured musicians include Sherry Du (violin), Elliot
Kim (violin), Ashvin Satwani (cello), Kyunghwan Lim (clarinet), Ellie Clark (flute), and Justin
Duong (piano/keyboard), and a special guest Andy Thierauf (percussionist) under the direction
of Ramsey Reyes, Assistant Conductor of the Penn Orchestra.

Andy Thierauf

Andy Thierauf is a Philadelphia-based percussionist specializing in contemporary music with a focus on integrating percussion with theater, dance, and technology. He often performs with new music ensembles including Arcana New Music Ensemble, NakedEye Ensemble, Unseen Rain, and Orchestra 2001 as well as collaborating with choreographers and dance companies like Vervet Dance, the Naked Stark, and Anne Marie Mulgrew and Dancers Company. Andy teaches at Settlement Music School and is an adjunct professor at Kutztown University.

By Car or By Train

The East Falls Train Station is a short walk from the Fallser Club. Parking in East Falls is no problem! There is ample free on-street parking near the East Falls train station driveway at 3610 Midvale Ave and a paid municipal lot three blocks away at 4100 Ridge Ave.  Midvale Ave and Ridge Ave are both well-lit!
