Necati ve Saykolar

Experience the vibrant energy of Anatolian Folk Rock with Necati ve Saykolar!

Necati ve Saykolar is a Turkish rock band formed in 2011, consisting of vocalist and saz player Necati Karadayı, guitarist Alper Kayman, bassist Barış Şanlısoy, drummer Serhat Ergür, and keyboardist Sezer Süngü.

The band masterfully brings the Anatolian Folk Rock music of the 1970s and 1980s into the modern era with a fresh sound, successfully representing the genre today. By reinterpreting various songs in their unique style and incorporating improvised dialogue into their performances, they transform their shows into theatrical spectacles, creating a lively and entertaining atmosphere for their audience.

Barakka

Barakka is a Philadelphia-based, multi-national, multi-ethnic band led by singer/guitarist and İstanbul native Barış Kaya. Formed in 2010, the group blends influences from Turkish music, folk-rock, and diverse global traditions, creating a sound born out of friendships between musicians from different backgrounds. Their unique style has been recognized as world music in the U.S., though it resonates just as strongly with Turkish audiences, who hear echoes of Anadolu Rock pioneers in Barakka’s fusion of east and west.

The band has shared stages with major Turkish artists such as Moğollar, Yeni Türkü, Mirkelam, Mehmet Erdem, Gripin, and Mor Ve Ötesi, and has performed for organizations like the Turkish-American Friendship Society and the Collingswood Arts Commission. Their performances span from iconic New York venues like Drom and Nublu to Philadelphia staples such as World Café Live and The Legendary Dobbs, even reaching larger stages like the Wells Fargo Center before a Philadelphia 76ers game.

Barakka’s sound is rooted in original songwriting, enriched by the interplay between guitar, oud, and darbuka, with arrangements shaped by years of experimentation and collaboration. What began in Philadelphia’s Old City with Kaya, Roger Mgrdichian, and Joseph Tayoun grew into a larger ensemble, joined by William Tayoun on keyboards and a rotating cast of bassists and drummers. Their 2012 album Uzaklardan drew acclaim from critics like New York Music Daily, which praised the band’s ability to transcend language barriers through emotionally charged anthems and their fusion of Western and Middle Eastern sounds.

Beyond recordings, Barakka has created impactful music videos, including collaborations with filmmakers Marc Brodzik, Andrew Geller, and Cevahir Unal, tackling themes from anti-war messages to national tragedies like the Soma mine disaster. During the pandemic, they stayed active with inventive at-home and animated projects, and in recent years have toured extensively across Turkey, often reaching smaller cities underserved by live music. Alongside writing new material, Barakka remains committed to honoring the legacy of Turkish composers such as Aşık Veysel, Erkin Koray, and Ara Dinkjian, balancing innovation with tradition in their ongoing musical journey.
