Opener: The Jette Planes

The Jette Planes are a Philadelphia-based rock band with elements of power pop, garage rock, alternative, and much more intertwined into one sound. With their debut album, singles, and EPs being released from the group, they continue to be a staple of the Philadelphia underground music scene.

Scoville Unit

Scoville Unit, led by long-time friends (and ex-college roommates) Drew Isleib and Gandhar Savur, has just released its fourth album, See What Can Be. The band has received some unexpected accolades over recent years. On their last S/T record they were described in the press as “pure pop rock genius”, and “winsome and infectious”; and called “one of the more talented forces working in indie music”; they drew comparisons to legendary bands such as the Replacements, Sugar, the Lemonheads and Guided By Voices along the way, even earning the well deserved “essential new music” tag from NPR Music, and the album climbed the charts, topping numerous stations at college radio. On top of their game, Savur unexpectedly decided to fulfil a lifelong dream and moved to Tamarindo, Costa Rica, where for the next year and a half he admittedly spent the bulk of his existence “surfing…and eating rice and beans.”  But it was during his time there that See What Can Be was created. Heavily influenced by greats such as Big Star and Fleetwood Mac, or the joyous energy of the Clash and Thin Lizzy, “See What Can Be” goes back to their roots as a band, while brimming with a newfound confidence and mastery of their craft. It’s an album of arena-sized rock songs that are still willing to be intimate and personal.  There’s tight, crunchy, ’60s-influenced pop-rock with big, baited hooks alongside jangling and fuzz-drenched guitars. Imagine Brian Wilson grew up in Asbury Park instead of Malibu.   Isleib and Savur’s well-honed vocal trading and harmonizing reaches commanding new heights. Once again, the band received high praise from the press, including Under the Radar calling it “A pitch-perfect dose of power pop euphoria, recalling bands like Big Star or Fountains of Wayne” and The Big Takeover stating “Few indie artists in the NY metro area are any better at smithing choruses or fitting wistful tales of romantic longing to memorable melodies.”

 Plans to Sand

Plans to Sand is an alternative-indie pop band from Philadelphia fronted by ‘singing sisters’ Jessica Pappas and Adrienne Swiatocha. Compared to acts such as Veruca Salt and Belly, their melodic hooks, mellifluous harmonies, and contagious energy have delighted fans at the Grape Room, the Foundry, and PhilaMOCA to name a few.  In 2023 they released their first Album “So What,” whose title track has been included on playlists around the world.  Some recent reviews have described the team as “A girl group that reminds me of the irascible acts of the nineties and beyond who combined a punk aesthetic with a set of harmonies that appeal beyond the indie set….passion and pop in one place” and as having “a talent for crafting catchy pop choruses that are complemented by excellent guitar work & hard hitting lyrics about radical acceptance of youthful indiscretion.” They are currently working on releasing 7 new tracks starting in the fall.

The Tisburys

The Tisburys are an indie rock band from Philadelphia, PA led by singer-songwriter Tyler Asay. The band has released three full-length albums, most recently 2022’s Exile On Main Street, which combines influences of heartland rock and power pop hooks with jangly guitars and gritty lyrical storytelling. Their music has received praise and radio play from NPR, Little Steven’s Underground Garage, and 88.5 WXPN, where they played the XPoNential Music Festival. They have shared the stage with national acts (Gin Blossoms, Jenny Lewis, Drive-By Truckers, Old 97’s) and local Philadelphia heroes such as The War On Drugs, Baroness, and Dave Hause. The band recently completed their first East Coast tour and have begun recording their fourth LP due out next year.
